2016 Wrap Up: Competitions, Fundraisers, BBQ’s and A LOT OF PRs!
In the blink of an eye another year has come and gone. As we approach 2017 with full steam, it’s important that we take a moment to reminisce and reflect on all of the great moments, events, and successes we’ve experienced and achieved as a community in 2016.
Several of your coaches and fellow Diamond State members ventured down to Miami Beach, Florida to compete at Wodapalooza, a worldwide fitness competition celebrating life, fitness, and community. Team “Abs and Tats” competed among the likes of current and previous CrossFit Games athletes and placed 19th overall. Vinny Casey qualified for the Individual Elite Division, holding his own on the most competitive floor second to the CrossFit Games. Coach Chris competed individually in the Rx division, placing 16th overall.
MOST IMPORTANTLY, our supportive fans stuck it out in the crazy monsoon that hit the city that weekend. It was absolutely amazing looking into the stands to see their faces cheering us on, rain or shine.
**Be on the look-out this year as these athletes will be making a return trip the weekend of January 13-15th. Our athletes will be competing in the Elite Team Division, Team Harambe and Team Harambaee**
FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS! How cool was that? The community getting together to throwdown and complete the CrossFit Open workouts. And to follow, sticking around to enjoy the company with food, drinks, and an AWESOME CFDS customized giant Jenga set (thanks, Max!). It was great to see a bunch of our members pushing themselves way beyond their limits and to have the community surrounding them screaming and cheering to get one more rep. Won’t ever forget the chills I got watching Mike Wroten cleaning his weight and getting so pumped up he almost jerked it too! Coaches Jaimie and Gia both finished TOP 20 (14th and 18th) for females in the Mid Atlantic Region. Athlete Vinny Casey placed 16th in the Mid Atlantic Region.
An overall improvement in your fitness and health is obviously extremely important, but what can be even more rewarding is putting your fitness to the test and seeing your hard work pay off. In true Diamond State fashion, a handful of our members got out of their comfort zones and competed in local competitions, Olympic Weightlifting meets, Savage and Spartan Races. Many of which earning a podium spot and bringing home some hardware! Great job!
“Unbreakable” is not only a term we use to describe our mentality here at CFDS, but also the strength of our community. This year we decided to take you guys outside of the box and complete a 5k Run at Bellevue Park, something that a lot of our members completed for the FIRST TIME EVER. Coach Randi and Gia were there to catch the action. It was a great moment to experience, watching our members cheer each other on as they crossed the finish line. After the run we stuck around to play some beach volleyball and drink mimosas (don’t tell the park rangers!).
What may have been a blessing and a curse, later this summer Coach Gia introduced us all to the infamous Assault Bikes. We love to hate them, but hate to love them!
Diamond State has members of all fitness levels, ages, etc. Did you know that Demeter Picciotti is a Delaware State Record holder in powerlifting? This year, Dem won GOLD in the Senior Olympics! So inspiring! A true testament to health and fitness for a lifetime!
Our community, this gym, is really something special and we love to share that with new faces. This year we offered the Free Month promotion and also a 6-week Challenge. The turnout was great and the box was jam packed! We appreciate all of your cooperation during that time! Coach Randi did a phenomenal job with the 6-week Challenge group. Teaching them everything they need to know about CrossFit, really making them feel welcome and their experience worthwhile.
On the first night of Elements we had over 40 people show up for their Free Month! Can you imagine 40+ people in the gym at once?! Coach Gia, Eli, and Randi attacked it with their stellar teamwork and made sure the information was delivered in a safe and effective manner. Both programs were a great success!
Every year we fundraise for Barbells for Boobs. This year we teamed up with Hardbat CrossFit and completed the benchmark workout, Grace. Thank you all for your generous donations!
To close out the year, we decided to give back to the greater community and hold a toy drive for Tender Hearts, Inc. of Delaware. Tender Hearts is committed to supporting medically-fragile children in order to create a better quality of life. There was an abundance of gifts stuffed under the tree, all of which were directly delivered to families & children in need. Your thoughtfulness and generosity is heartwarming. Thank you all for supporting this cause and once again demonstrating why CrossFit Diamond State is the best around and way more than just a gym.
WHAT A YEAR! The Diamond State staff is relentless in our pursuit of excellence in this field and strive to make your CrossFit experience, your journey to lifelong health, exceed all of your expectations. Thank YOU for your belief in us as professionals, your loyalty, and your dedication to the program. Without all of you this place does not exist.
